After earning my BA in creative writing from the State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz and my Master of Applied Science (MAS) degree (which is like an MBA with a tech emphasis) from the University of Denver, I spent 6+ years on the marketing and hiring side within nonprofit, city government and corporate cultures.
I added to what I learned in the classroom and on the job by earning Certified Professional Resume Writer (CPRW) and Certified Employment Interview Professional (CEIP) credentials through the Professional Association of Resume Writers & Career Coaches (PARW/CC) in 2010. Winning a Best LinkedIn Profile Award through Career Directors International's (CDI) Toast of the Resume Industry (TORI) Awards a year later validated my instinct that LinkedIn was (and still is) the perfect platform for demonstrating pros' personality.
Having several resumes and cover letters published in various best-of books helped build my industry cred and led to invites to serve as an interim board member for the National Resume Writers' Association (NRWA) in 2011, to co-present at the NRWA conference in 2013 and to share my career knowhow during podcasts in partnership with Win-Win@Work in 2014 and The Career Confidante in 2015, where I shared tips from my ebook on showing personality to make meaningful LinkedIn connections.
2015 was a banner year, as I once again made the list of industry leaders with a CDI Best Sales Resume award nomination. One of my resumes was featured in the new resume bible published by industry legends, Wendy Enelow and Louise Kursmark, Modernize Your Resume: Get Noticed... Get Hired. I was also honored by the University of Denver (my grad school alma mater) for being a "leader in my field" who "demonstrates creativity or originality in their achievements" (I'm blushing) through a 2015 Alumni Achievement Award.
And, after co-presenting the 2-hour teleseminar, Writing Powerful LinkedIn Profiles with Personality, to hundreds of writers through Career Thought Leaders / Resume Writing Academy (CTL/RWA), they invited me to present solo at their annual conference in Denver in 2016 on creating complementary, personality-packed resumes, cover letters, e-notes and LinkedIn profiles, Packaging Portfolios with Personality.
How's that for qualified?
